This project was titled, 'Couture Recycled', and from that I came up with my own theme, 'Space Age Couture A/W 08'. It was about modernising an old couture look by reinventing it. The recycling part could be taken literally or metaphorically, i.e recycling an idea.
My main inspirations for this project came from 1950's couturiers such as; Christian Dior, Hardy Amies and John Desses. To inspiration from the catwalks today, for instance; Gareth Pugh, Comme Des Garcons and Hussein Chalayan, all of which use recycling through the materials they use or their ideas.
The final design was a simple asymetric dress (as modern designs are often simple and sleek) with pointed capped sleeves. I made a toile from white felt however my garment would be made from a thick luxurious white/ivory wool and my customer profile was based around Kylie Minogue as she often wears space age type outfits when performing on stage.
